Know Your Gadget is a consumer technology guide. We write plain-language explainers and buying guides about everyday gadgets: things for the home, for daily routines, for the kitchen and for travel and the outdoors. The aim is simple: help readers understand what a product type does, which features matter and which are mostly marketing, before they decide whether to buy anything.
What we cover
The site is organised into four sections: Home Gadgets, Everyday Tech, Kitchen & Lifestyle, and Outdoor & Travel. Articles explain how things work, what the numbers on a specification sheet mean, what to check before buying and what to be careful about, such as safety, privacy or compatibility. Our readers are mainly in Canada, with Australia and the United Kingdom also in mind, so where rules or conditions differ by country (plug types, voltage, carry-on restrictions, winter performance) we try to say so.
How our articles are produced
Our articles are desk-researched. That means we read manufacturer documentation, standards bodies, regulators and other public sources, and we list the sources at the end of each article. We do not buy or lab-test products for these articles, and we say so on every article page.
