Know Your Gadget
Editorial Policy
How Know Your Gadget researches, writes, corrects and labels what it publishes.
This page describes how articles on Know Your Gadget are made and what readers can and cannot expect from them. We have tried to describe what we actually do rather than what sounds impressive. Know Your Gadget is published by ADMEDIA IMPACT LTD.
What we publish
We publish explainers and buying guides on consumer technology and home, kitchen, travel and outdoor gadgets. The goal is to help you understand a product type: what its specifications mean, what to compare, trade-offs, common mistakes, safety and privacy points. We write under the collective name Know Your Gadget; articles do not carry individual author names or claimed credentials.
How we research
Articles are desk-researched. Writers use public sources: manufacturer documentation and support pages, standards and certification bodies, government and regulator guidance, and reputable published references. Each article lists its sources at the end, and the article text is researched against those listed sources. Where sources disagree or a point depends on a particular product or country, we try to say so instead of choosing the neater answer. We do not use anonymous tips, and we do not quote experts or cite statistics unless a source is listed.
What we do not do
- We do not test products. Articles are not hands-on reviews. We do not run lab tests, give star ratings or scores, or claim awards. Each article says this near the top.
- We do not name a 'best' product or publish prices or availability, which change quickly.
- We do not accept payment, free products or other consideration to influence what appears in our regular articles, and nothing in them is paid placement.
- We do not write invented reader stories, fake testimonials or fictional experts.
Fact-checking
Before publication, claims in an article are checked against the sources listed for it, and numbers and units are re-calculated where we show worked examples. This is a desk check by the publication, not an independent audit, and it cannot guarantee that an article is free of error. Specifications and rules change; an article reflects the sources at the date it was written.
Independence and the publisher
ADMEDIA IMPACT LTD is an advertising agency business (SIC 73110 — Advertising agencies). We therefore state this openly. The regular articles on this site are written and published without paid placement, and we do not have advertisers who can approve or change them. We cannot promise that no commercial interest could ever influence us, which is why we keep sponsored content separate and labelled (below), and why you can judge the sources yourself from the lists we give.
Sponsored and affiliate content
At present no article on this site contains affiliate links. The publisher may in future publish sponsored or affiliate content on separate pages of this domain. That content will carry its own disclosure near the top, a visible label such as 'Advertorial' or 'Sponsored', and a statement of the advertiser relationship, and it will not be presented as regular editorial. See the affiliate and sponsored content disclosure.
Images
The pictures on this site were generated with an AI image tool. They are generated illustrations of generic, unbranded products and everyday scenes, even where they look photographic. They are not photographs of specific products, real homes or real people, and they do not show test results or customer outcomes. Text and sources, not the images, carry the information in each article.
Corrections
If you find an error or something out of date, email [email protected] with the page address and what you think is wrong, ideally with a source. We will review it and, if the article is wrong, we correct it. Where a correction changes the meaning of an article, we note it on the page. We do not promise a fixed response time.
Updates and review
Articles show their publication date. We review articles as we become aware of changes in the underlying sources, such as new standards, safety guidance or rule changes, but we do not promise a fixed review schedule. An older article may therefore contain details that have since changed.
